Mark Stokes wins his first Gold Medal at a magnificent Hollinwell.

Friday 9th October 2020

Mark Stokes from Studley Wood GC won his first UKSGA event at Hollinwell GC undoubtably one of the top courses in the country by shooting 73+71 to pip Nigel Evans 68+76 on the back 18 with Paul Nancarrow and David Price finishing one behind on 145. Such was the depth of competition that the CSS remained at 73 on both days. In the S/S Nigel beat David Price by 1 with Charlie Banks in 3rd. In the Masters Chris Reynolds finished ahead of Robert Gill and Ian Dawkins who was helped by a Hole in one on the 5th in his 2nd round. Thank you to Ian for providing us all with what turns out to be a farewell drink for the 2020 season. We only got 6 events in but what a quality 6.

Kevin Diss dominates at Deal

Friday 9th October 2020

Kevin Diss led from the front at a wonderfully conditioned RCPGC to win by 9 shots with two fantastic scores of 71+70, probably the standout performance of the season. Peter Harrison beat Paul Nancarrow on countback to take2nd place. The S/S was a battle of internationals as Chris Reynolds beat Ashley Brewer with Dougie Cameron in 3rd followed by Billy Mitchell continuing his good form and Nigel Evans making an impressive top 5. Chris also won the Masters with Stephen Whymark taking 2nd place with Neil Hughes in 3rd. " excellent rounds gave Tim Hedin the nett prize with only Kevin Diss beating Tims nett score of 143. Many thanks to Deal and the R&A which gave us this extra opportunity for an event which everyone was hugely grateful for.

President Billy Mitchell wins at Rochester&Cobham GC on countback (last 12) from Phil Bramall and Martin Fell.

Thursday 17th September 2020

In our first visit to Rochester &Cobham GC Billy Mitchell with 74+75=149 and courtesy of a tournament winning birdie 2 on the short 16th ! wins the Gold Medal beating Phil Bramall and Martin Fell on the back 18 the former on the back 12, with Craig Pates in 4th only 1 shot away from winning outright, such is the level of competition in the UKSGA these days. Billy also won the S/S from Doug Cameron with John Yuill in 3rd. Stephen Whymark comfortably won the Masters from Alan Macnaught with Robert Afia putting in a good performance to finish 3rd. Paul Wilkinson one of our newer members from our Chelmsford contingent won the nett prize outright with 70+72 . Congratulations also go to Chris Chambers who had a hole in one on the 2nd hole in round 2

Friday 11th September 2020

Phil Bramall shoots 2 rounds of level par 70 to beat Martin Cooper on 147 and 5 players on 148 with David Pain taking the bronze medal on countback from Martin Fell, Craig Pates,Mike Ready and Nigel Phillips. Ian Foster won his first S/S title since turning 65 last October but an old favourite in Chris Reynolds led the Masters home with 152. Nigel Phillips was the clear winner of the handicap prize with Nett 67+69 to be 4 clear. Thanks to our Ball sponsor Callaway we did have a free ball sweep but not a 2s sweep as there were 48 2s including 4 at the 1st hole. The CSS stayed at 72 showing the strength in depth of the association and thanks to GM Tim Knight and Captain George Copley and all at Porters Park who made it a very successful first visit. We look forward to returning

Gareth Bradley shoots -4 2nd round 68 to claim victory as the UKSGA go from the heat of Huntercombe to the soaking of Day 1. Only with the fantastic help from Tim and his team in the Proshop and Greg and all the groundstaff did we manage to get everybody round as the heavens opened, and just to make it interesting we also needed the Paramedics and Green Flag breakdown.

Sunday 9th August 2020

With glorious weather, a superb but challenging Golf Course and a fantastic welcome from GM Marcus and all at the Club, the UKSGA completed their first event of 2020. Congratulations to all especially Gerry Penfold, Nigel Evans and Keith Elvin who all tied on 144 with Gerry taking the Gold Medal on the back nine of Rd 2, Nigel won the S/S 65+ Title and Martin Lee the Masters 70+.
