Steve Mason leads from the front to win at Woodhall Spa
With round one on the Hotchkin Stephen Mason (Woolley Park GC) sets an amazing pace with a 2 under par 70 that included 6 birdies. Mike Ready (Old Fold Manor) recorded a 3 birdie 74 to join him in the final group for day two with the consistent Mike White (West Wilts) on the same score. The 75's of Malcolm Cawte and Stewart Dalgarno kept them in touch with Simon Dymoke with them in the penultimate group.
Day two and we switched to the Bracken course with most Woodhall local members declaring it to be the tougher test of the two courses. Early scores confirmed that with only one score in the 70's in the first 15 groups and only with better scoring from the last 2 groups did we see many more. But Steve Mason's second round 80 was enough to hang on to gold by just one point.
Silver medal went to Stewart Dalgarno with an excellent 76 on the Bracken for a 151 total.
Bronze was collected by Mike White - his second round 78 was enough to nudge out Mike Ready by countback on the back 9 of round 2. But Mike won the crystal in the Super Seniors category with his 152 total.
Nick O'Byrne (Moor Park) took the prize in the Masters section with his 160 total and Brian Parker (Burhill) wins crystal for best net 36 with a 145 total.
Next up - Aldeburgh - and a chance to test their new layout as well as collect those last vital Order of Merit points.
