David Marshall triumphs at Aberdovey

Aberdovey - a regular stop in our schedule -  offered it's usual warm welcome and the course looking at it's very best. Greener than normal on it's fairways but slightly lusher in the rough for the wayward drive.

Day one brought us temperatures in the low 20's while the rest of the country was suffering a sweltering heatwave. And with very little wind there were no excuses for some good scoring. And Nigel Evans set the early pace with a 1 over par 72. This was almost matched by Graham Forrest who went out in 2 under par 32 before dropping a few around the turn to post a 73.

Round two brings cloud and even a spot of rain and, thankfully, slightly lower temperatures. With the experience of round 1 behind them even better scores were expected. And the early starters proved it - particularly for Alan MacNaught who shoots his age with a 76 - a 12 shot improvement on round 1.

Graeme Wright returns a solid 2 over 73 from midfield to move up the table.  But the race for the gold medal came down to the final group and the very last putt.

Winning the Gold Medal at Aberdovey was David Marshall (Ross on Wye) with a 3 over total of 145 beating Nigel Evans (StMellons) into Silver - the latter only losing out on countback on the final round.

And the bronze was collected by David Price of Test Valley - his second round 73 lifting him up into the medals.

Super Seniors prize winner was Ashley Brewer (Denham) and our Masters champion was Les Evans (Eaton)

Leading the 36 hole net was Graeme Wright (N Wilts) with a superb net 66 in round 2.

Special thanks to Aberdovey and their team who looked after us so well and provided an excellent course. And now its on to Moseley for round 8........
