European Senior Golf Championship and Cup Results

Day 3

Our scratch team managed to claw back some of the huge lead that Spain had built up over the first 2 days and pulled away from the chasing pack but were nudged back into 3rd place by an Italian team posting 4 rounds in the 70's. Neil Franklin (16th) was our top performer with 241 strokes over the 3 rounds, 11 behind the individual winner from Spain. Allister Raphael (18th), Graham Meddings (19th) and Paul Smith (21st) joined Neil as our top 4 performers.

Our handicap team, having all been docked 2.3 strokes due to the Congu/EGA conversion formula, managed to retain 7th position and a third successive net score in the 70's put John Fulton in top slot individually and 13th overall, only 9 stroke behind the winner from Greece.

The event next year is on the western Algarve in Portugal again in June.

Day 2

The Scratch team team, captained by Neil Franklin has risen from 8th to 2nd place and Neil is personally lying 10th the the individual European table.

The Handicap team, captained by Reg Neal has had a similar performance in the low 80's on both days and we estimate that the UK is lying around 7th overall. John Oliver dominates the individual performance list and is personally lying 8th in the individual European table.

Day 1

The first day at the European Championships dogged by controversy - European teams asking for handicap adjustments but without accompanying handicaps certificates and UK handicaps are  being scaled down by punative EGA slope conversions, making for a delay in the posting of Day 1 results in the handicap event.

Meanwhile, in the scratch event, the UK team is lying in 8th position out of 19 countries with a combined best 4 of 6 stroke count of 332 compared to the leaders Spain with 308. Neil Franklin, Paul Smith, Graham Meddings & Terry Croker were our best 4.
