Sweden field a strong team at Ahus Golf Club and take back the Trophy from UKSGA

The UKSGA match against Sweden took place at Kristianstad Golf Club, Ahus on 1st and 2nd October 2019. Despite the UKSGA team's best efforts in the Day One Four Ball Better Ball Scratch contest, the very strong Swedish team took a commanding lead into the Single Scratch Matchplay on Day Two. The UK team fared much better on Day Two but the lead was too great and the Trophy went to Sweden.

The match was played on the East Course, the more challenging of the two at Kristianstad  and ranked 5th of all the Swedish courses. It is understood that with the ranking reassessment due for next season, the course will rise to 4th place. Both courses are tree-lined with greens and fairways well protected by challenging bunkers, and in addition, the East course 14th, 15th and 16th holes have a linked challenging water hazard that snakes the fairways and wraps around the Greens. In all, a very worthy golfing challenge! All matches were played in excellent spirit and the golf club staff made the UKSGA very welcome. It is worth noting for those of you who golf overseas regularly that the course facilities are being extended to include extensive coaching areas and lodges to enhance the destination as a first class "go to" venue.

Ahus itself is a beautiful small town with a glorious beach, beautiful canal, hospitable inhabitants and excellent food. And of course, it is also the home of the Absolut factory! Thank you to Kristianstad Golf Club, the Swedish Team led by Magnus and Stig, and the hotel staff of Åhus Gästgivaregård who looked after us so well.
