Southerness proved to be as testing as all had reported but after a 30 minute delay for lightning on the Monday morning with the first 2 groups sheltering in a hut by the 5th green the weather was benign. Day 2 proved to be more testing as the wind blew up to 25 mph and stories of misfortune were many. Simon Dymoke led after round 1 with 72 closely followed by Malcolm Cawte with 73 with Kevin Batchelor with a nett 67 all helping to keep the SSS at 73. As the wind blew on Day 2 the scores rose with the CSS going to 76 R/O but Malcolm Cawte hung on to win by 1 adding an 80 for 153 to pip Keith Elvin who shot a best of the day 77 to add to his other 77 for 154 which pushed Simon into 3rd place on countback adding an 82 again for 154. Kevin Batchelor added a nett 79 to win the Handicap prize with John Yuill winning the S/S from Adrian Donkersley on countback going to the last 12 of Rd 2 to decide the outcome. Alan Connell from Chelmsford GC was the winner in the Masters category with a total of 169.
