Keith Davies leads from Day one to become the Welsh Champion at idyllic Aberdovey

Aberdovey GC and all of its Staff welcomed us to the 5th event of the year with a week of sunshine and glorious views. The squeegee operators of Holme Hall were nowhere to be seen although a bit of rain would also be welcome, now we have moved on. So to the golf with sunscreen and shorts to the fore the scores were excellent, with the SSS remaining at 72 both days. Leading from the front was Keith Davies with 70+74 , just holding off Mike Ready 71+74 both of whom enjoyed a welcome return to form, and in 3rd place Paul Knight 76+70 building on his excellent showing at Holme Hall and also reducing his handicap down to 3. Steve Leahey was delighted to win the S/S division with 78+74 in his first year as a new Super Senior and Stuart Fawcett won the battle of the Masters with 76+78. Another man in form and driving his handicap back down was Martin Cooper with nett 71+69 who won the handicap prize. Other points worthy of mention include the unfortunate saga of a BMW diesel engine that needed carrying home, one of our players being penalised for playing his own ball due to the fact it was the one he had lost the day before, and how many Eccles cakes can the secretary eat and finally the usual assortment  of withdrawals, mainly due to old age and injury but not all. I will see you at Frilford Heath next where we have the AGM and our first double two tee start and we will have had the hopefully calmer entry process of our final events of 2019 opening on June 1st.
