In wonderful Welsh weather where the only complaint was it was too still, Aberdovey GC and all their staff made us very welcome for the 4th year running and Nigel Chesters (Hawkstone Pk) retained the trophy he has yet to see with scores of 73+69 by 2 shots from a resurgent Mike Ready (Melbourne Club) 74+70 and Martin Fell (Ladbrook Pk) in 3rd with 73+74. In 4th place was Malcolm Cawte (Selsey )who added a best of the event 68 to improve on his first rd by 12 shots. Joint overnight leader Mike White was unable to play on Day 2 due to a back injury. In the S/Snrs David Price(Test Valley)75+75 took the honours with Chris Graham(Ogbourne Downs) winning the Masters Division with 76+74 with 10 of the top 15 in the S/Snrs being 70+.
The handicap winner was Craig Pates (Moseley) nett 72+68 beating David Price on back 18. The course was in excellent condition and a delight to play and although they are suffering with a shortage of catering staff like many clubs it was a delight to see Susie and Adam from the office joining Mr Newcastle Utd (ask me any result) and Gareth behind the bar looking after us. We will be back next year.
