White wins again at wet and windy Coxmoor

Our third meeting of the year at Coxmoor threw some typical Spring weather over the two days. Strong winds dominated day 1 reflecting in tough scoring and a PCC adjustment of +2. The winds left us alone for day two but the rains arrived just after lunch to test the best at the top of the leaderboard.

Round one saw Les Bruckner (Hindhead) and Mike White (West Wilts) hold the lead in the main event with level par 73’s. Mike’s round included 5 birdies. Just one back was Ian Attoe (Worplesdon) who achieved two eagle 3’s on the 6th and 13th.

With the change in weather for day 2 the early starters were to get round dry but by 2 pm the rain had settled in for the rest of the day and the leaders were to be tested.

Gary Mumford (Woburn) was the only player to hit level par in round two but that came up short in chasing down the leaders.

It was Mike White who hung on for Gold with a 76, 149 total to win for the second time this year – this time by two shots from silver medal winner Make Gershinson (Hartsbourne) and bronze winner Ian Attoe.

Ian Attoe - Bronze

Ian (only a player of his quality could possible get away with those trousers) did post the best score in the Super Senior section however with the chrystal going to second placed Les Bruckner with his 6 over par 152 total.

Our Masters (over 70’s) winner at Coxmoor was Hugh Purvis (Long Ashton) for his 163 total after a strong round of 79 on day two to win on countback from Stuart Fawcett (Woodhall Spa) who picked up maximum OOM points towards his ESGA 75+ Masters qualification.

Winning chrystal for the net event was David McMillan (Hayling) shooting a 1 under net total of 145.

Congrats must also go to Martin Dix (Ferndown) for his hole in one at the 190 yard 2nd hole. Thanks for the tipple Martin.

We still await support from our software supplier to correct the OOM’s as we race towards ESGA 2025. More on that later.

The 2024 tour moves south next to Ingrebourne Links in Essex. There are still spots available for that one - its a new addition to our courses and looks an interesting track. We hope to see you there.
