Martin Fell takes the honours at High Post

Martin Fell’s excellent 142 at High Post proved unbeatable yesterday at the High Post UKSGA Championship this week. His first round 68 (the lowest score of the tournament) when backed up by 74 secured victory from Keith Davies (72/71) by one stroke. Nigel Evans leapt up into third medal position with his 69 second round (145) narrowly pipping Ian Attoe’s steadier 73/73 into the Senior prize position. Hugh Purvis secured the Super Seniors prize with 146 with Reg Neal taking top spot in the Masters (163). Nett prize was claimed by Neil Franklin whose first round gross 72 enabled his nett score of 137 to pip Brian Parker.

High Post GC with its stunning views over Salisbury Plain, proved to be an excellent choice of venue. The wind direction inevitably pays an important role here and the long par fours take real thought to find the best strategy for attack. The course was in great order, with many competitors commenting on the condition, better even than a few weeks previously. The subtle borrows on the greens caught out some players but all agreed that the efforts of the new Head Greenkeeper were evidently having an effect and the hard work to prepare the course was very much appreciated by all. It won’t surprise many that the statistics of the two days showed the last three holes played the hardest.

Our grateful thanks are due to all at High Post.
