Phil Bramall takes Gold at Woodbridge

Philip Bramall takes the gold!
With 99 competitors starting in this competition, Woodbridge proved to be a popular venue and well worth the drive to Suffolk.  A beautiful, heathland course, it is not long by today's standards at 6299 yards.  However even the view from the clubhouse tells a tale of narrow fairways, gorse and heather.  Together with the tricky greens it proved to be a genuine test of golf (par 70 and css 71; the sss for day 1 was 72 and this went up to 73 on day 2 -  with the help of a change in the wind direction and some tricky pin positions!).

Philip had a two shot lead going into day two and out of the top 10  from day one, only one other made the prizes!

Philip (Chart Hills) continued in good form on day two finishing with an excellent 143 (71 + 72).  Peter Harrison (The Wisley) took the silver with 148 (74+74) and Graham Meddings (Wrotham Heath) did well to move up from 11th position on day one to take the bronze medal with a score of 153 (76+77).

The weather held for us on both days and the club looked after us well.  The course was in great condition and we were delighted to have Club Captain Malcolm Crissell with us for prize giving.

Well done also to Seniors Division winner from Wildernesse, Jonathan Wright on 153, Super Seniors Division winner, Neil Franklin of Beaconsfield on 158 and Masters Division winner, Tom Dods of Chigwell on 160.  The handicap prize went to Chris Lavery of Olton Golf Club with a net 144.
