Ian Attoe lands first 2017 UKSGA win

The weather looked favourably on the UKSGA contingent as they gathered for round one at Liphook.  With 122 starters on day one and the course being readied for the Club Championships this weekend, Liphook proved to be a real test of golf.  The course was in great shape and the greens lived up to their reputation of being not only magnificent but pretty tricky!

Ian Attoe (Worplesdon) led on Day 1 with a creditable 71 from Martin Cooper (Reigate Hill) on 73 while Mike Ready & Richard Partridge were close with 74's.

Back on the course for day two (now with 117 still standing!) three Wilsons found themselves drawn together (Peter, Alan and Stephen - Royal Blackheath, Henley and Burnham Beeches respectively). Not only did they shoot 3 x 80 on the first day but also 6 x 40 across the 2 day competition; a statisticians field-day in the making. Even William Hill could not calculate the odds of such a result.

Peter Laughlin (Gog Magog) started round two with a borrowed putter and whilst it not improve his scoring, his highlight of the round was achieved without the putter at all, when he holed in one on the 7th!

Overnight leader, Ian Attoe (Worplesdon) held it together on Day 2 to finish with an excellent 144 (71 + 73) with Richard Partridge on 146 and Les Bruckner on 150.

Alan MacNaugt landed his first win in his new role as a Master golfer (aged 70+) and earned a large portion of Order of Merit points in the Race for Portugal 2018.
