Gerry Penfold takes UKSGA Gold at Warrington

After some heavy rain the evening before the course team pulled out all the stops to get the course prepared for Round one at Warrington. The greens for the first round were understandably on the slow side but we still had some good scores (David Price lead with a 72 after day one coming in as part of the last group and Gerry Penfold 73).  The weather wasn't great on day one but the top 17 broke 80.

Day two saw three drop outs and the weather threatened rain though it only came about during the last hour.  It was interesting to see the UKSGA members all swapping weather apps just like a group of teenagers.

There were no great surprises on day two although Peter Adams (Redditch), who was lying seventh after day one, coming through with an excellent 72 bringing him up to bronze medal position and David Matter (Bury St Edmunds) with an excellent round of 71 - didn't put him in the medals but saw him take the handicap prize. Glyn Ratcliffe, treated himself and playing partners to a hole-in-one on the 6th.

Warrington Captain, Ken Bradley was around to welcome UKSGA competitors and was also there to officiate at the prize giving and we were well looked after by the Club team and volunteers throughout!
