Andy Williams takes gold at Newport

Andy Williams (Newport Gwent) cruised home with a four shot margin over Keith Davies and Malcolm Cawte. His total of 147, with rounds of 74 and 73, was an excellent 3 over SSS, which was good enough to beat their totals of 151  ( Keith 78-73 and Malcolm 76-75)    John Yuill's  much improved second round (83-76) made him the winner of the Super Senior's section with Bryan Claringbold, in his first year the UKSGA's Masters category, taking top points.  An excellent score of 75-72 gave Paul Earland a net total of 147 in his rookie year at the UKSGA.  A hole on one at the second ensured a happy visit for Michael Smith from Lindrick.  The cool weather and fast greens proved difficult for most of the field with the first round ending as reduction only and the second round closed with a CSS of 74.  For the time of year the course could not have been in better condition.  The Newport Club ensured that we enjoyed the visit with a splendid course and fine catering.
